Cut Cut Cut

Cut Cut Cut

La perfection est atteinte, non pas lorsqu’il n’y a plus rien à ajouter, mais lorsqu’il n’y a plus rien à retirer.
— Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
“Perfection is attained not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to remove. “
— Antoine de Saint-Exhubery

Take heed of this wise gem from the author of The Little Prince.

The trap many of us fall into, is that we want to sound smart, competent.  Maybe we suffer from a mild case of imposter syndrome. We want to make an impression and we tend to oversell.

So what do we do?

We data dump.

We pad our presentation with charts, reports, statistics and tons of detail that make us feel better.

And then what happens?

Avoid the data dump in your presentations

Avoid the data dump in your presentations

That’s right. We lose our audience. They’re bored and ready to check their phone for e-mails.

You must resist the temptation to say it ALL.

The mark of an expert is in their ability to simplify a complex subject.

Make sure that through your editing process, you have taken significant time to reduce, refine, and shorten your presentation.

Make sure you cut, cut and cut some more until you’re left with only that which is essential.

Less is more.

So, when is your next presentation?

Review your presentation and see how you could distill it further. Cut redundancies. Simplify.

Or get help from a professional.
